Services

Three services, one verified pipeline.

We sell services, not software. Our engineers use the Seismatix recovery pipeline on your data, so every tape follows the same documented, auditable path.

Service 01

Seismic tape data recovery

Data recovery from aged, damaged or unreadable seismic tapes, including sticky-shed, mould and drive-obsolete media.

  • Condition assessment, cleaning and controlled baking where needed
  • Multi-pass reads with retries and full error logging
  • Unreadable blocks recorded and reported, never silently skipped
  • SEG-Y, SEG-D, SEG-B and SEG-2 structure validated after reading

Service 02

Legacy media to modern media

Transcription of legacy tape libraries to current storage, with originals preserved and every file checksummed.

  • 9-track, 3480/3490, 3590, DLT, Exabyte, DAT and LTO to disk, LTO-9 or cloud object storage
  • Format conversion, for example SEG-D or SEG-B to SEG-Y, with QC reports
  • Backup catalogue reading, such as Backup Exec and tar-based archives
  • Delivery to your storage, cloud tenant or data platform
Plan a migration
Service 03

Subsurface data management

Make recovered data findable, trusted and ready for use, for exploration, reprocessing, M&A and regulatory needs.

  • Cataloguing, metadata capture and survey-level indexing
  • Automated seismic QC with independent reviewer sign-off
  • Archive and retention design, physical tape and records tracking
  • Delivery ready for interpretation tools and OSDU-based platforms

The technology behind the service

See the pipeline our engineers use on your data.

The Seismatix recovery pipeline tracks every tape from intake to release, runs automated seismic QA, enforces separation of duties and shows live operations on a wall screen.

  • Multi-user web interface with a named audit trail
  • Eight-stage workflow with a next step always shown
  • Per-file seismic QA and visual previews
  • Live operations monitor for your project team

The software is not for sale. We use it to deliver your project. The demo uses synthetic sample data only.

Live demo

Try it yourself with sample data.

Receive a tape, inspect it, catalogue and restore it, run seismic QA and sign off as an independent reviewer. Nothing leaves your browser.

Industries and use cases

Built for the organisations that hold the data.

National oil companies

Secure national data assets before the media or the drives needed to read them disappear.

International operators

Recover legacy surveys for relicensing, reprocessing and new exploration cycles.

Regulators and data repositories

Migrate national archives to modern storage with documented integrity.

Seismic and service companies

Transcribe client libraries and hand back clean, catalogued data.

M&A and data rooms

Verify what a portfolio really contains before you buy, and get usable data fast.

Decommissioning and records

Preserve well, survey and operations records, then dispose of media with certificates.

Global operations

We operate globally, wherever your tapes are.

Rysen Group is headquartered in Cape Town, South Africa, with laboratory and warehouse capability in Luanda, Angola. Your project runs the way your data policy requires.

  • In-country processing in a local lab, so data never leaves the jurisdiction
  • Secure transport to our laboratories with tracked, insured custody
  • Remote project management with live status for your team in any time zone

Data handling

  • NDA and confidentiality before any media is accepted
  • Named-user audit trail on every action
  • Encrypted storage and transfer, access on a need-to-know basis

Integrity

  • Every file hashed at read and again at delivery
  • Two copies on separate storage with matching hashes
  • Separation of duties between operator and QA reviewer

Close-out

  • Signed project report with success rate and exceptions
  • Media returned, or securely destroyed with a certificate
  • Retention and deletion as your policy requires
FAQ

Questions we are usually asked.

Can you recover data from old or damaged seismic tapes?

Yes. We assess the physical condition of each tape, clean or bake it only where the condition calls for it, and read it with multiple passes and retries. Blocks that cannot be read are recorded and reported, never silently skipped.

Which tape types and seismic formats do you support?

We work with 9-track reel, 3480/3490, 3590/3592, StorageTek, DLT/SDLT, Exabyte, DAT and LTO media, and with SEG-Y, SEG-D, SEG-B, SEG-2 and SEG RODE data, plus navigation, well-log and backup-catalogue formats. If your media is unusual, we assess it before quoting.

Do you sell the software?

No. At this stage we sell services. Our engineers use Seismatix, our proprietary recovery pipeline, to deliver your project, and you receive the recovered, verified data and a signed report.

Can the work be done in our own country?

Yes. We can process in-country in a local laboratory where regulations or data policy require it, or transport media securely to our laboratories. Rysen Group is based in Cape Town, South Africa, with laboratory and warehouse capability in Luanda, Angola.

How do you guarantee data integrity?

Every file is hashed at read and again at delivery. A dataset counts as safe only when two copies on separate storage have matching hashes. Automated seismic QA checks each file, and an independent reviewer signs off flagged files.

How long does a recovery project take?

It depends on tape count, condition and format. We give a written estimate after a short assessment, and you see live project status throughout.

How do you protect confidential data?

We sign an NDA before accepting media, keep a named-user audit trail of every action, use encrypted storage and transfer, and apply need-to-know access. Media is returned or destroyed with a certificate at close-out.

What do we receive at the end of a project?

Your data on the storage you choose (disk, LTO, or a cloud tenant), a catalogue and metadata, a QA report, a signed project report with the success rate and exceptions, and your media returned or destroyed with a certificate.

How do I get a quote?

Book a meeting with our team. We discuss your media, formats, volumes and timelines, and then send a written proposal.
